Riverdale’s season two finale was jam-packed with heart-pounding twists and life-changing turns!

And while we were thrilled to see Cheryl Blossom officially embrace her status as the newest member of the Southside Serpents alongside her girlfriend, Toni Topaz, we were surprised to see that a certain Choni scene had been cut from the finale.

After Riverdale star Madelaine Petschstopped by Sweetwater Secrets — ET’s Riverdale-centric YouTube series — last month, the 23-year-old actress previewed to our cameras that Cheryl and Toni would be taking a big step forward in their relationship during the finale.

“I think as far as it's planned, [Cheryl] and Toni will be living with Nana Rose,” the red-headed beauty dished when asked about Cheryl’s living situation after becoming officially emancipated in the finale.

“When [the Riverdale writers] were like, ‘Toni's moving in with Cheryl,' I was like, ‘Yesss! I live!’” Petsch added with a coy smile. “I wish you could've read the original script because it was ‘Rawr!’”

So just what exactly was this milestone moment supposed to look like? Toni Topaz herself, actress Vanessa Morgan, has our answer!

“Well, the moment that was cut from the episode was me just pulling up to her house — on my motorcycle of course,” Morgan dished to our cameras last week after taping her live episode of Sweetwater Secrets. “And I went up to the door with my bag and I just smile at her. And then she's like, 'Welcome home!' but we didn’t end up keeping it.”

Darn it — that sounds all kinds of adorable!

To get the scoop on why this swoon-worthy Choni moment was ultimately cut from the season two finale, we called up Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and asked him to reveal the behind-the-scenes details.

“In the finale, we always write it big, but in the end we have to leave some [scenes] behind for timing reason,” Aguirre-Sacasa explained ahead of the final episode.

“For instance, at the end of season one, we had shot that the Coopers were going to adopt Jughead. We shot that scene, and I think it ended up on the DVD, I can’t remember. We ended up cutting that partly for time reasons and also because we wanted to see what the strokes for season two were going to be,” he shared. “If we were going to tell that story, the first thing that would’ve happened in season two would’ve been that Jughead moved in with Betty — so the same thing was true for Cheryl and Toni.”

“I will tell you though, and I will let all of the Choni fans know, that I’m the biggest Choni fan,” the Riverdale creator stressed. “If scenes didn’t make it into the final cut, they will be on the DVD and we will try to release them and I can promise you that there are big stories ahead for Choni.”

Despite the change of plans, Morgan explained that she actually thinks it’s a “great idea” that this Cheryl and Toni moment was left out of the finale. “That gives us season three to further explore relationship instead of getting super serious too soon and moving in together,” she said. “You know, [something like] that could maybe lead to bad things for such a new couple.”

“I really think we're saving all the Choni for season three, I really do — that’s what I've been told anyways,” Morgan continued. “So I’m really looking forward to seeing season three.”

Riverdale’s third season will premiere later this fall on The CW.
